I Just Really Like It: Volume 24
Three things I've really enjoyed making (and eating) lately and some shows to check out, because why not?
We love randomness! And in the sprit of that, here are a few things I’ve loved cooking and watching lately. Maybe make one and eat it while watching a show? Why not!
The Food!
Saffron Salmon Kababs
This was a wonderful, easy dinner that made it feel like it was mid-July. I paired it with dill rice (jasmine rice with toasted, chopped pistachios, lots of dill, lemon juice, salt, and olive oil), cucumber salad (lotsa herbs, olive oil, rice vinegar, and salt), and storebought tatziki from Trader Joe’s (lol). I highly recommend investing in metal skewers by the way (bamboo will burn in my experience, even if you soak them).
Tortellini with Garlicky Brown Butter and Dill
This was dinner a couple of days ago and my husband and I tried to eat this very slowly because, uh, it was incredibly delicious. I added a little extra grated pecorino romano on top because, why not! Tuesdays can be fun, too.
Burst Cherry Tomato, Shallot, and Herb Pizza
I recently tested the Ooni Volt and consquently made (and ate) so much pizza. This was a stand out amongst it all. The cherry tomato sauce? Amazing. Lotsa herbs? Incredible. The pockets of mozzarella? Phenomenal. If you’re intimidated by making pizza dough, I highly recommend Ooni’s frozen pizza dough balls. They’re a dream to work with.
The Shows!
Lockwood & Co.
This is about a group of (teenage, I think?) ghost hunters and it’s honestly way more delightful and somewhat spooky than it sounds.
Not Dead Yet
An obituary writer that can see and talk to the spirits of the people she’s writing about? And she’s played by Gina Rodriguez? It’s absolutely delightful. And the supporting characters are fantastic, too, like Hannah Simone a la New Girl.
9-1-1
This show is honestly stressful, but in way that makes very drawing, ya know? It centers around a group of firefighters, police officers, and 9-1-1 dispatchers and it’s emergency after emergency after emergency, with some recurring plotlines threaded in. If you like non-relaxing TV, give it a shot.
