Per a request from a friend, this week’s newsletter is devoted to the products that, in the year-and-a-half I’ve been growing out my hair, have really helped my locks feel and look healthy. I didn’t include a shampoo and conditioner, as I’ve used a few that have been truly great (including ones from Ouai and Briogeo).
JVN Complete Pre-Wash Scalp & Hair Treatment Oil
Briogeo Stimulating Therapy Scalp Massager
There are plenty of people far more qualified than me to talk about why healthy hair starts at the scalp. But once I started treating my scalp, I noticed less dryness, more shine, and that I could go longer in between washings. Prior to stepping in the shower, I put this scalp oil on, then massage it in with the Briogeo tool for a minute or so. Then, I wait 20 to 30 minutes before shampooing.
Davines The Renaissance Circle Hair Mask
When my hair’s in need of moisture, this is the best mask I’ve found. It’s highly scented (which may or may not bother you), but it’s what my salon uses as a deep conditioning treatment and it works. For every $11 packet, I get 3-4 uses.
Ouai Leave-In Conditioner
This adds a ton of moisture, tames frizz, and acts as a heat protectant for any styling that may (or, more likely, may not) happen. The Davines Oi All-in-One Milk is also great, but more expensive and harder to source.
Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil
My hair’s prone to dry ends and this oil helps massively. I have fine hair and other hair oils tend to make it look greasy, but the Olaplex is lightweight and adds moisture without weighing it down. I apply a few shakes to my damp ends and gently rub it in. And while the Briogeo strengthening treatment oil is too heavy for my locks, I’ve heard it works really well for others with thicker, less fine hair than mine.
