I Just Really Like It: Volume 1
Featuring a $5 skin tint, the easiest wine opener, lightweight hoops, and more.
Welcome to the first edition of ‘I Just Really Like It’. What is it, you ask? It’s a weekly (and maybe more, if I’m feeling inspired!) newsletter featuring products/things/stuff I just really like and recommend. There will always be at least (at least!) 5 items.
As a paid subscriber, you’ll receive this newsletter every Thursday. If you’re not a paid subscriber, I’ll still try to provide ya with plenty of content…it might just not be weekly! I also started an Instagram, where I’ll be sharing product recommendations and extra tidbits. Give it a follow, if you like!
Wet n Wild Bare Focus Tinted Hydrator
I’ve tried a lot of skin tints. The Ilia one? I like it, but it has a pretty strong scent. The Kosas face oil? I don’t think it’d work well unless your skin is very dry (like mine). The Rare Beauty one? Eh…after having it on all day, it didn’t wear well. But this Wet n Wild tinted hydrator is lightweight and provides a natural, radiant, hydrating finish. I like adding dots of it all over and then blending it out along with the Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter. However, I also often just apply the Tinted Hydrator with my fingertips and it looks beautiful. Plus, it’s only $5. (Note: I use shade light and have fair skin with yellow undertones. This product does contain squalene, for anyone allergic to the plant-derived ingredient.)
Athleta No Show Socks
I recently tried some incredibly cheap no-show socks off of Amazon. They were indeed no-show because they slipped constantly and would not stay on my feet. So, I invested and purchased these socks from Athleta. And they are excellent. With high arches that have little rubbery grips on them, these socks don’t move. And while Athleta markets these socks for “medium to high impact workouts,” I’ve worn them mostly with casual sneakers paired with dresses or jeans. I plan to try the Bombas no show socks next, but I do already prefer the pricepoint of the Athleta ones.
PAVOI 14K Gold Colored Lightweight Chunky Open Hoops
I absolutely ruined my ears for life in high school by wearing a ton of heavy earrings. Now, if earrings tug at my ears at all I won’t use them. These cheap (under $15) gold hoops are *it* for me. They’re lightweight and, I feel, go well with most everything. I have the plated yellow, 30-millimeter versions. I also own the plated rose, 40-millimeter ones. The latter are equally light and wearable, but, for me, just slightly too large for everyday wear.
OXO SteeL Vertical Lever Corkscrew
I’ve been in food media for, uh, a long time (coming up on 10 years now) and there are many kitchen-related things I’m particularly good at. This does not include opening a bottle of wine. Which is where this corkscrew from OXO comes in: To use it you pull the lever up, position the wine opener over the cork, push the lever down, and pull it up to remove the cork. To get the cork out of the corkscrew, just push the lever down again. It also has a built-in foil cutter and is (without an ounce of hyperbole) the easiest corkscrew I’ve ever used. If you need more convincing, you can check out this review.
obé Resistance Loops
I’ve found a lot of resistance loops aren’t stretchy enough. So, their use is really limited. (It’s tough to do an arm workout when you can only move the band a half an inch!) I’m also not a fan of resistance bands that come untied. Once you knot them, there’s always a fair amount of overhang and they just feel somewhat clumsy. This set of resistance loops has the perfect amount of stretch. I’ve used mine multiple items a week for the past year and they still look brand-new. The Level I band is excellent for arm workouts and the Level II ideal for legs.
